13 Moons on Turtle's Back (Tales from our Fathers)

My father read to me every night growing up, he would tell me stories and we would sing songs together (neither of us were very good). While my father is not Native he saw the importance of storytelling and often read me books by Native authors, my favorite of which was Thirteen Moons on Turtle’s Back which uses the Abenaki story of the turtle’s shell to explain all 13 moons of the lunar calendar. Each moon has a story from a different tribe across the continent, each is depicted here on this turtle’s shell.
